If You are scheduled to appear on a Channel 6 program here are some hints & helpful
tips: PLEASE READ
At the Studios in The Village? (map below)
This will be for any of the live shows such as Good Day Big Bear.
- The shows goes Live on the air at 7 a.m. We suggest you arrive at the studio least
10 minutes before show time (6:50 a.m.), even if you are scheduled to appear later
in the show. If a guest is a “no-show” the host needs to make adjustments on the
fly, such as keep an early guest longer, prepare a “B-Roll” story. Be there early
so they know you are ready. It may be we will need to rearrange the guest order.
Be preparred to stay until 8:00 a.m
- The studio is on the third floor - no elevator. Plan accordingly.
- There is no kitchen. Please bring coffee/water or what ever you may need.
- There are usually tissues on the desk, if you are having issues, please be prepared.
- The studio is an “open” sound stage. Please keep conversations to a minimum, courtesy
to other guest will certainly be returned.
- There is a bathroom on the third floor.
- Bring your Materials (see What To Bring) and deliver to the hosts BEFORE the show
begins.
- Turn off your cell phone, pagers Walky-Talky, watches, alarm clocks - anything that
might interfere with the flow of the show.
- Watch out for “Deer-In-The-Headlights”, there are several monitors on the stage so
the hosts know which camera is active and that everyone is “In-The-Shot”. It can
be fun to watch yourself too. Some guest have frozen when they see themselves on
TV, just a word to the wise, stay engaged in the conversation with your hosts, even
when someone else is talking.
- WE ARE LIVE. There is no 3 second delay for us to bleep out any remarks, you say
it - it’s going out.
- Ignore The Man Behind The Curtain. There are a number of “cues” passed between the
hosts and the booth by a hand gesture, a body move, a sidelong glance. There is quite
often a great deal of movement off camera, people coming and going, even movements
that might be construed as an “alarming” gesture. IGNORE EVERYTHING. Stay engaged
with your host. Don’t look around and try to figure out what is going on. If the
viewers can’t see it - it doesn’t matter to you. This will make for a much better
show from your appearance.
- STAY OUT OF THE BOOTH. Unless you are asked a direct question by booth personal avoid
all conversations, recommendations or questions. Once the show starts these people
are 100% engaged until the show is OVER. There are lots of essential things to do
while we are “at commercial”. And, just because the show is over their job is not
finished. Any distractions could prevent the show or it’s repeat from airing properly.
Hold all conversations with personnel until well after the show and they are done
with the wrap.Note: A Carmel Macchiato is good insurance that all will go well...
- PLEASE BE CAREFUL! Lots of equipment, cables, props and people in an itty-bitty
space makes moving onto and off the set a a bit tricky - WATCH YOUR STEP and PLEASE
WAIT FOR DIRECTION. We will move you into place or off the set as soon as practical
and safe.
- Speak up, you don't need to be inordinately loud but you do need to speak in a audible
tone of voice.
- HAVE FUN !
At The Big gear Production Studio? (map below)
This will be for most “Production” shows.
- Here your wardrobe choices are a bit more critical, especially when shot against
a green screen back drop. Always a good idea to bring a change of clothing for the
producer/director to choose from.
- If you have a script, make sure you bring it (and something to write with) - even
if you have it memorized. You never know when things will change.
- This is a ground floor studio, aside from that please see general notes above.
For an “In The Field” shoot?
This would be if you are shooting “On-Location”
- Make sure you know where and when you are to meet.
- Make sure your director/producer has your contact information
- Bring your cell phone - fully charged.
- Once again a change of wardrobe (or two) is always a good idea. Once at the site
what looked great in the mirror at home may completely disappear with the background
or the colour may be wrong for the lighting.
- Water and/or food is even more critical here. Always be prepared for the shoot to
take twice as long as planned.
- Jackets and change of shoes, etc should be fairly close at hand.
- If you have a script, make sure you bring it (and something to write with) - even
if you have it memorized. You never know when things will change.
- Also see notes above for overall preparedness.

Whites arc - Bright red bleeds - Small stripes make the cameras crazy - Green (at
the production studio) turns transparent in front of a green screen - Hats will place
a shadow on your face.
The top you wear may prevent the placement of a lavaliere microphone and we would
have to resort to a surface Microphone. Think about where you would place the clip
on Mic with what you are wearing.
Glasses MAY create a glare or reflection - please check with the camera person after
you are in place but before the show starts.
Jewellery on your wrist MAY cause a banging on the desk if we are using the surface
microphone.
Long loose necklaces MAY cause unwanted banging on your lavaliere microphone.
Please note, We have no one to do make-up and hair.

At The Village Studio, contrary to the on-air jibs by our hosts there are no bleachers
or studio audience seating. There are a few chairs, a couch and several walls to
lean against. A few guests are certainly welcome and always fun to have around. Please
brief them regarding sound, conversation while we are live, the stairs, etc. Video
taping or Photography IS allowed. Please no flash and please be cognisant that a
live show often requires split second moves by our crew to make sure you or your
guests are NOT in their way. For production work or in the field, please check with
your producer/director.

Posters/Fliers
As much work as most organizations put into making wonderful print media they generally
will NOT translate well on TV. On occasion we may be able to take a still shot and
display it as a graphic during your appearance but don’t count on it being readable.
Posters - of any size - may be held up as an icon to be recognized when seen out
in the world but don’t count on much more.

Bad Idea.
The studio is a very confined space with a great deal of action. Not the best environment
for the family pet. Service animals and of course if the animal IS the guest, those
would be exceptions.
If there are things that help tell your story, by all means bring them. Please be
sure they are things you can handle yourself as we have no grips to assist you. If
they need be hung or will not fit on the desk please discuss with the host that invited
you, prior to your appearance. Please remember space is limited. Also note that the
likelyhood of the viewers observing a great deal of detail in your prop may be difficult.
All props must be removed from the premises at the end of the show, we have no where
to secure your property.
Live shows are only kept in memory for one week. The best way to assure yourself
of a copy is to complete the form above and bring it with your check for $25 the
day of the show.
* As always there may be mechanical or human issues that could prevent us from generating
your copy, your best assurance is to have the show recorded yourself.
